Why else live and work in East Kent?

Great travel connections…Situated in the southeast corner of England, Kent is easy to get to whether you’re travelling by road, rail or air. With London just 38mins away on Southeastern's high-speed links, Kent is an ideal haven for residents, filled with great transport routes around the county.

As the closest point to mainland Europe (21 miles at the nearest point to be exact!), Kent is also well placed for residents to explore the rest of Europe. P&O Ferries and Eurotunnel le Shuttle carry visitors across the channel every day.

Stunning surroundings… The beautiful countryside, stunning coastline and vibrant towns and cities are within easy reach of one another and are begging to be explored.  Kent’s excellent road network and bus services operated by Arriva and Stagecoach make it easy to get around and hundreds of miles of way-marked cycling and walking routes ensure you are well looked after once you’ve arrived.

We have recently placed lots of happy Social Workers into posts across East Kent; see what they have to say about the area and type of work available below...

Peter, Social Worker | Children in Care Team

In 8 years of locum work in various teams, all with KCC except for 7 months in another Authority, my present assignment of over 2 years in the same team is one of the best, if not the best, in which I have worked.

Working conditions are very good as Brook House is a modern building and I have always had my own work station (whereas in another office I had to hot-desk for over 3 years).  However, by far the best work factors are the team and the managers, both of which are the key to a satisfying work assignment, especially when working under sometimes quite severe time constraints. Team Managers are very supportive and always treat staff as valued colleagues, and team members are very supportive to their colleagues, willingly taking on additional tasks at short notice to help out even though all are very busy.

I commend joining the Canterbury CIC teams as an opportunity to be placed in a pleasant work environment in which a good deal of professional and effective work with children is undertaken, together with superb colleagues and very supportive managers.

Sophie, Newly Qualified Social Worker | Children in Care Team

I am a NQSW working for the children in care team in Thanet.

Thanet can be a challenging area for some children to grow up and it is rewarding seeing how our input can positively impact upon them. I enjoy working for Kent County Council as a NQSW the amount of both formal and informal support is fantastic.

Living in the area is also a positive with lots of beautiful beaches, countryside, affordable housing and plenty of things to do you will never be bored.
