A Day in the Life of a Care Worker - Carers Week
This week marked the beginning of Carers Week so we thought now would be a good opportunity to have a short interview with one of our Care Workers who works in Margate. Here is what she had to say about her role;
Can you describe what a normal day in your role entails?
My role is to care for individuals in the care setting. My main duties include taking care of their general needs with washing, toileting, ensuring they are eating good food and drinking plenty of fluids. I also try to encourage them to take part in activities.
What challenges do you face working in the care sector?
One of the challenges I personally have is trying to engage, as most of the client's I work with have dementia and at times they can become physically aggressive and verbally too.
What do you like most about your job?
I like interacting with different individuals and trying to support them with their daily needs.
What do you do outside of work to wind down?
I enjoy reading books and when the weather is permitting I love sunbathing. I also enjoy watching films, having a glass of wine and of course mostly spending time with my family .
What struggles are you and your colleagues currently facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic?
The Covid-19 pandemic has been a struggle due to the lack of work and also the unknown of how high the risks are to my own family.
What do you like about agency work?
I enjoy agency work as it gives me the choice of when I would like to work and if I don't wish to work at other establishments I don't have too. For me this flexibility works really well.
